07/13 Granite Falls Home Companion

$10.00

It's been four whole years since we first started parodying a certain former public radio staple of Minnesota life.
Can you believe it, folks?

If you're uncomfortable enjoying other anniversary shows in town this weekend, join us for a guilt-free session of wholesome comedy and music with Uproar's Madi RT and your host, the reformed and contrite Jessica Feeler!
Audiences should be warned that there may be some degree of sexy dancing.

Jessica Feeler (Jessie Hennen) actually lives in a small town, unlike some people we could mention. However, she did grow up in Shoreview, spending the Saturday nights of her childhood being soothed by the dulcet tones of MPR and repeatedly rereading Lake Wobegon Days before -- as an adult -- being disappointed. She's worked for the DFL, is an English professor, and has an MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, where she honestly did her best work writing roasts of her colleagues. Her students have called her "nice, but sometimes scary."

Madi RT (Madi Ramirez-Tentiger) is a co-host and founder of the Uproar Comedy Open Mic (Winner of CityPages Best of the Twin Cities Comedy Open Mic 2020 and MNComedy's Open Mic of the Year 2021) and has performed regularly at Bryant Lake Bowl and elsewhere for years. Fun fact: they are also an expert electrician who spent a surreal season touring with "Trolls: the Musical."

A Granite Falls Home Companion began when Hennen's husband Miles Taylor (DJ FNK), bored in March 2020, asked Hennen to fill an hour of the living-room artists livestream he'd set up. Desperate to amuse the pandemic homebound with something that WASN'T literary fiction, Hennen enlisted Madi RT; the show evolved from the duo reading old Speech skits (that occasionally were missing a page) to, by the end of May 2020, a full-length parody of -- okay, we'll say the name -- A Prairie Home Companion. Since then, the show has evolved to incorporate multiple musical acts (such as femme-rock band Elour) and guest stars, as well as recurring featured players Miles Taylor, Alec Sievert, Will Hanson, Michelle Bohacek, Paul Drees, and Joe Hennen. It has also received Southwest Minnesota Arts Council grants to produce two filmed volumes of sketches (available on the Prairie Fyre YouTube channel). Having gained experience over the course of previous live shows at the Bluenose Gopher in Granite Falls, the Prairie Fyre art and music festival, and the Little Theater in New London, Feeler and company will headline the Arts Meander in a full-length production at the Granite Falls American Legion on October 4th.
