SPACEPORT ALBUM RELEASE with Loud Sun

  • Bryant Lake Bowl 810 W Lake St Minneapolis United States (map)

Spaceport is the soft-pop indie-rock project of St. Paul cellist Arianna Wegley, who arranged and produced songs she wrote over a sad, lonely year. She taught herself to play guitar and synths and recorded in her bedroom, then invited her partner Todd Olson (Robot Slide, Batucada do Norte) to replace her sampled drums with live ones, and Liam Moore (Robot Slide, Los Rebeldes) joined on bass. Spaceport’s debut album Window Seat, mixed by Andrew Jansen (Loud Sun) morphs classical sensibilities into catchy pop hooks for music that is both dark and dreamy, alien and earthbound, conversational and profound. Their music comprises sounds of ethereal synths, layered vocals, effected cello and extended string techniques, distorted guitars, bright trumpets, and sublime clarinets. A sensitive, driving rhythm section brings the songs home with a life and energy essential for any good pop song.

Loud Sun is the primary project for South Minneapolis musician and producer-songwriter, Andrew Jansen. Most often self-produced and self-recorded, they incorporate elements of punk, psych, folk, and pop through a lo-fi and retro lens. Currently (2023), Jo Kellen (Products) on bass, and Skyler Nowinski (The Controversial New Skinny Pill) on drums, help fill out the compositions for live shows.
