Join Kari Tauring and friends for a celebration of the longest nights. Jul, Yule, Christmas, Winter Solstice, gathering in community in the darkest days is a human necessity.
Tauring began writing new songs for the season that spoke to the pre-Christian traditions surrounding Winter Solstice from both the Anglo and Scandinavian roots of her culture. A Yuletide Celebration (1999/ A New Yuletide Celebration 2011) became not just the recording of these songs but a full ritual performance each year. Sometimes huge multi-media events, sometimes sweet intimate performances, the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater has been the home for this tradition for many years.
You will hear songs that embrace the darkness and stories of the mystical creatures that roam during these dark winter days. There will be toasting ceremony and sing a longs. Feel the support of community and add your light to the growing glow of hopes for this weary world.
